Compensation for Mississippi lobbyists totaled almost $5 million in 1997, but the influence with legislators cannot be measured in dollars and cents.

Lobbyists are the eyes and ears of businesses and special interest groups while legislators are in session. It is their job to know what bills are being introduced, and to provide legislators with information to support their clients
