The final frontier: Mississippians take a look at Cuba

It is legal for American businesses to trade with communist China and communist Vietnam. Most observers tend to believe it is only a matter of time before the U.S. lifts the trade embargo to Cuba. Mississippians want to be poised to take advantage of the trade and investment opportunities that are expected when trade is normalized.

Recently, a group of state residents visited Cuba as part of the University of Southern Mississippi (USM) international studies program. The group included Thomas W. Colbert, who is chairman of the board of Community Bank Shares, and a member of the state college board.
