`Mississippi Miracle` vies with addiction tales

BILOXI — Tales of economic progress brought about by the “Mississippi Miracle” competed with stories about personal and financial devastation wrought by compulsive gambling during testimony before the National Gambling Impact Study Commission hearing held Sept. 10 on the Gulf Coast.

The study commission is a federal task force charged with evaluating the economic and social impacts of the nation`s legalized gaming industry, which generates an estimated $51 billion per year in revenue.
