West Point – Prestage Farms was successful in overturning a moratorium on new factory hog farms in Mississippi, an option available to counties that was allowed by legislation approved earlier this year. But now the issue of expanding hog farms is the least of the troubles for the company that has invested $50 million in Mississippi. Due to a collapse in the hog market, Prestage is losing money on every hog it sells to its processor, Bryan Foods of West Point.
