Are Americans preparing for their retirement? The recently published 1998 Retirement Confidence Survey tells a good bit about views on retirement. The survey was published by The Employee Benefit Research Institute, American Savings Education Council and Matthew Greenwald & Associates.
As a percentage of income, Americans do a sorry job of saving for retirement. However, 45% of all U.S. workers have tried to determine how much they will need to save before retirement (up from 32% in 1996). Don`t confuse inquiry with action — most workers aren`t doing much about providing for their retirement after they see how deep the hole is.
