Bryan’s bill would buffer retired state workers

Got a calculator? If you’re a state employee, you’ll need one to calculate revisions to the state employees’ retirement plan that is in the works at the Legislature.

Sen. Hob Bryan (D-Amory) authored Senate Bill 2381, which is designed to buffer retired employees from tough economic times. The bill has passed the Senate and is in the appropriations committee of the House. A similar bill, authored by Edwin Perry (D-Oxford), was introduced as House Bill 472. It, too, has passed the House and has been referred to the Senate finance committee.

“Both chambers are moving on these bills very quickly,” said Bryan. “It will probably be resolved sometime in March.”
