GULFPORT — Harrison County is riding on a wave of job growth that has fueled an increase in retail sales plus the construction of a large number of new single-family and multi-family developments.
Harrison, the Coast’s largest county, represents about 50% of the labor force of 82,001 people in the three Coast counties. Since 1992 the number of jobs on the Coast has increased by 12.4%. The largest growth has been seen in the transportation and utilities sector, which has seen an increase of 137% since 1992.
However, the service industry remains the leader in terms of actual jobs creation, adding 19,896 jobs, a 77% increase.
