TUPELO — The Downtown Tupelo Main Street Partnership has signed a licensing agreement with Elvis Presley Enterprises (EPE) Inc. to sponsor the first annual Elvis Presley Festival Aug. 6-8, 1999, on the streets of downtown Tupelo.
“This is something that we have wanted to do for a long time and are extremely happy to have worked out all the details concerning the use of Elvis’ name, likeness and image through EPE Inc.,” Debbie Brangenburg, manager of the downtown organization said. “They have been extremely helpful in working with us so that this new event can take place and be done in a proper manner.”
The three-day event will be a celebration of the music of Tupelo’s most famous native son and focus on the impact his life had on the development of rock ‘n’ roll.
“Elvis loved the city where he was born, and he returned there often over the years,” said Jack Soden, CEO of Elvis Presley Enterprises. “We know that he would be very proud that Tupelo was remembering him in such a special way and that the festival will also benefit the Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation.”
