Reviews are valuable tools, but often unpopular with workers

Just like kids dread report cards, many adults approach annual performance reviews with fear and loathing. But management specialists say that annual performance reviews can be a very effective tool to influence the performance of employees and maximize the performance of the company.

Surveys on the topic of performance reviews have found almost universal dislike. One recent survey of human-resource professionals found that only 5% were “very satisfied” with the review process.

A survey of employees who have been evaluated might find even lower rates of satisfaction.
