Mississippi tops in new business

According to the Dun & Bradstreet Corporation, Mississippi led the nation with a 15%-increase in new business start-ups and a 23%-increase in the number of new jobs created by those new businesses from 1997 to 1998. For the same period, it found a 7%-decrease overall in the U.S.

The report said Mississippi saw 1,347 new businesses in 1998, compared to 1,171 in 1997, and 8,197 new jobs, compared to 6,659 in 1997.
