Substantial investments by new and expanding companies put Mississippi in sixth place in Southern Business & Development magazine’s annual Investment 100. The Investment 100 ranked 14 Southern state by number of capital investments that qualified for the 100 biggest deals of 1998.
Mississippi companies on the 1999 Investment 100 list are the Red Hills Power Project (No. 7), Mississippi Power Company (No. 9), LS Power (No. 19), Williams-Sonoma (No. 65), Wellman (No. 75) and Mississippi Chemical (No. 85). Mississippi tied with Alabama for sixth place.
Mississippi and South Carolina tied for the No. 1 spot on per capita performance for 1998. Based on large investments per million residents (over $40 million in announced capital investment), Mississippi and South Carolina both claimed four deals.
