Two others also, who were criminals, were led away to be put to death with him. And when they came to the place which is called The Skull, there they crucified him.

And Jesus said, “Father, forgive them;for they know not what they do.”

And they cast lots to divide his garments.

— Luke 23: 32-34

It was now about the sixth hour, and there was darkness over the whole land until the ninth hour, while the sun’s light failed; and the curtain of the temple was torn in two. Then Jesus, crying out with a loud voice, said, “Father, into thy hands I commit my spirit!” And having said this he breathed his last.

Now when the centurion saw what had taken place, he praised God, and said, “Certainly this man was innocent!”

— Luke 23: 44-47

But on the first day of the week, at early dawn, they went to the tomb, taking the spices which they had prepared. And they found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in they did not find the body.

While they were perplexed about this, behold, two men stood by them in dazzling apparel; and as they were frightened and bowed their faces to the ground, the men said to them, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise.”

And they remembered his words, and returning from the tomb they told all this to the eleven and to all the rest.

— Luke 24: 1-9

As they were saying this, Jesus himself stood among them. But they were startled and frightened, and supposed they saw a spirit.

And he said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do questionings rise in your hearts? See my hands and my feet, that it is I myself; handle me, and see; for a spirit has not flesh and bones as you see that I have.”

— Luke 24: 36-40

While he blessed them, he parted from them, and was carried up into heaven. And they worshiped him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.

— Luke 24: 51-52
