Upcoming vote

MBJ Editorial

Now is the time to build momentum for the flag vote in April.

Mississippi’s business community must continue its leadership role on this important issue. We need a new flag because it would be good for business, good for Mississippi and it is, quite simply, the right thing to do.

For many of us, voting for a new flag will be a sacrifice. Thousands of Mississippians like the old one, with the Confederate battle flag, just fine, and they like it for a number of understandable reasons.

However, doing the right thing is often not the easiest thing.

“But I say to you who hear: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you,” we read in the sixth chapter of Luke. “Bless those who curse you, and pray for those who spitefully use you. To him who strikes you on the one cheek, offer the other also.”

Wise words worth remembering in the coming weeks.

BEFORE YOU GO…

… we’d like to ask for your support. More people are reading the Mississippi Business Journal than ever before, but advertising revenues for all conventional media are falling fast. Unlike many, we do not use a pay wall, because we want to continue providing Mississippi’s most comprehensive business news each and every day. But that takes time, money and hard work. We do it because it is important to us … and equally important to you, if you value the flow of trustworthy news and information which have always kept America strong and free for more than 200 years.

If those who read our content will help fund it, we can continue to bring you the very best in news and information. Please consider joining us as a valued member, or if you prefer, make a one-time contribution.
