Chairman and vice-chairman elected to State Board for Community and Junior Colleges

George Walker of Clarksdale was recently re-elected chairman of the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges.  Also, Henry “Bubba” Hudspeth of Louisville was re-elected vice-chairman.  The Board, composed of 10 representatives from across the state, is a coordinating agency which established standards and guidelines for the operation of the state’s 15 community colleges.

Walker was appointed to the Board by Governor Ray Mabus in 1991 to represent the Second Congressional District. He was reappointed by successive Democratic and Republican Governors. Currently, Walker is serving his fourth consecutive six-year term on the State Board and is in his fourteenth year as Chairman.

Hudspeth was reappointed to the Board by Governor Haley Barbour in 2009 after serving a term in 2006 to represent the Third Congressional District.  Governor Kirk Fordice appointed him to a six year term in 1996. Hudspeth was elected vice-chairman in 2008.
