MDEQ grants awarded

ACROSS MISSISSIPPI — The Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ) has awarded Solid Waste Assistance Grants and Waste Tire Grants to counties across Mississippi.

Those counties receiving Solid Waste Assistance Grants are:

• Lamar County ($12,328 and $14,971) — for a white goods collection program and for the development of a comprehensive solid waste management program, respectively

• Pearl River County ($15,494) — to clean up unauthorized dump sites

• Panola County ($12,262) — for employment assistance for a local solid waste enforcement officer

• Lee County ($13,078) — — for employment assistance for a local solid waste enforcement officer

• Jones County ($18,076) — to clean up unauthorized dump sites

• Tunica County ($7,414) — to clean up unauthorized dump sites

• Union County ($9,746) — to clean up unauthorized dump sites

• Tippah County ($9,413) — to clean up unauthorized dump sites

Counties receiving Waste Tire Grants, which will be used to continue local waste tire collection programs for small-quantity generators of waste tires, are Humphreys County ($50,000), Holmes County ($22,000), Jefferson County ($21,250), Kemper County ($13,000) and Neshoba County ($26,584).
