New, expanded facilities near $2.5 billion

ACROSS MISSISSIPPI — According to the Mississippi Development Authority’s “New and Expanded Facilities Summary,” from January-April 2009 there a total of 68 new and expanded facilities announced statewide, which are expected to create an estimated 1,677 new jobs and represent an estimated capital investment of approximately $2.454 billion. 

There were 39 expansions announced, which are expected to create an estimated 983 jobs and represent an estimated capital investment of approximately $437.523 million. The largest expansions, in terms of estimated capital investment, are ATK in Iuka ($230 million), University of Mississippi in Oxford ($50 million), Kohler Engines Inc. in Hattiesburg ($16 million) and Western Container Corporation in Hattiesburg ($14.7 million).

 

There were a total of 29 new facilities announced, which are expected to create an estimated 694 new jobs and represent an estimated capital investment of approximately $2.016 billion. The largest new facilities were Gulf Liquefied Natural Gas in Pascagoula ($1.5 billion), A-3 Test Stand at Stennis Space Center in Hancock County ($175 million), Margaritaville Casino and Resort in Biloxi ($100 million) and Pepsi South in Hattiesburg ($49 million).
