Ex-DOC chief medical officer arrested

JACKSON — The former chief medical officer for the Mississippi Department of Corrections (MDOC) has been arrested on 13 counts of embezzlement, confirmed Attorney General Jim Hood and MDOC commissioner Chris Epps. The arrest was the result of a joint investigation by the Attorney General’s Office and the MDOC.

Dr. Kentrell Liddell, 35, of Jackson is accused of embezzling money from the MDOC. Liddell was arrested by investigators from the Attorney General Office’s Public Integrity Division at the Madison County Medical Center, where Liddell is currently employed.

“When MDOC became aware of a problem, we alerted the Attorney General’s Office and have been working in conjunction with them to get to the bottom of this,” said Epps. “You’re always disappointed when a person in a position of trust abuses that trust. We will continue to police ourselves and evaluate our policies and procedures in the Mississippi Department of Corrections.”

Liddell was transported to the Hinds County Jail in Raymond where she was booked and released on bond. Bond was set at $1,000 per count for a total of $13,000. If convicted, Liddell faces up to 20 years and/or $5,000 per count.
