Visitors to the Capital City will soon have new place to stay in the downtown area. On June 17, city leaders and company officials held a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Downtown Sleep Inn and Suites at the site on Gallatin Street.
Mayor-elect, Harvey Johnson stated at the groundbreaking, “We need to make sure that Jackson earns it’s reputation as a destination city.”
“This project is another component of the changing landscape of downtown Jackson, and will be valuable addition to the hotel market in downtown, especially with the recent opening of the Jackson Convention Complex,” said J.R. Jones, managing member of The LEAD Group, LLC.
At the ground breaking, Jones showed his support for the location by stating, “Jackson was the place for this hotel.”
The LEAD Group is a minority investment and development organization whose members are residents of greater Jackson.
The Downtown Sleep Inn and Suites, which will be located near the Jackson Convention Complex, will offer 64 individual rooms and suites.
Construction is expected to begin this month. Developers said they hope to have the hotel open in early 2010.
