ELLISVILLE — Decades of service and leadership at Jones County Junior College (JCJC) have come full circle for Mike McClellan, a former chairman of the board and star athlete at the college. A scholarship has been established at the JCJC Foundation in McClellan’s name honoring his contributions to the college and the business community. The $10,000 endowment for the McClellan scholarship is funded by Magnolia State Bank.
McClellan, a native of Heidelberg, began his relationship with JCJC as a student in 1962, earning statewide recognition for his athletic talents on the football field. He continued to achieve success after his college years in the business community as president for Magnolia State Bank in Heidelberg. He has been part of the Magnolia State Bank family from its beginnings in 1977.
In May 2007, McClellan retired as chairperson of the JCJC board of trustees after 25 years of service. During those 25 years, McClellan approved the construction of numerous buildings on campus, witnessed several athletic state championships, and enjoyed steady enrollment growth in the student population.
The scholarship will be awarded annually to a JCJC student beginning in the fall of 2009.
