Mid-South gets ‘green’ grant

JACKSON — The Mid-South Community Development Corporation has been awarded an $80,000 Affordable Housing Program (AHP) grant from the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas through its partner bank, BankPlus.

The funds will be used in the development of the Harmony Estates subdivision in the Georgetown community of Jackson to assist first-time homebuyers and qualified applicants with down payment assistance. Mid-South will develop a subdivision of 51 LEED-certified, Energy Star-rated homes and will be the first certified “green” development of its kind in  the  state.

Derek Lane, the executive director of Mid-South, said the project is “designed to enhance the overall value of housing stock by offering affordable, energy-efficient, and aesthetically-designed homes.”

The project will represent a nearly $6 million investment for this historic West Jackson neighborhood.
