Lester Herrington of Brandon has been elected chairman of the Public Employees’ Retirement System of Mississippi (PERS) board of trustees for fiscal year 2010.
A retired deputy commissioner from the Mississippi Tax Commission, Herrington was initially a gubernatorial appointee to the board from 1991 to 2001. Then in 2005, he was elected by PERS retirees to serve a second term on the board. He was elected to chairman at the board’s June 23 meeting and succeeds Tate Reeves, Mississippi state treasurer. Herrington previously served as board chairman from 1995 to 1997.
