MONTGOMERY, Ala. — The state Agriculture Department has distributed almost $9 million to 141 catfish farmers as part of the federal stimulus package.
Agriculture Commissioner Ron Sparks announced the distribution Tuesday. Sparks said catfish producers suffered hardships last year due to increased feed prices. He said the funding provided by the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act will help them compete with imported catfish from China and help save jobs on farms and in feed mills.
Alabama is the nation’s second largest catfish producer.
