Harper backing IGCC plant
KEMPER COUNTY — Last week, the Mississippi Public Service Commission (MPSC) wrapped up hearings about the controversial integrated gasification combine cycle plant Mississippi Power is proposing to build in Kemper County. It has found at least one backer of note.
Rep. Gregg Harper (R–Miss.) came out in support of the plant at the conclusion of the five-day MPSC hearings.
“America continues to pursue energy independence by exploring new technologies, such as clean coal and CO2 sequestration,” Harper said in a statement. “Mississippi has an opportunity to lead the nation by putting this state of the art gasification plant online benefiting the people of Kemper County and the Third Congressional District. It is my hope that the Public Service Commission will move forward in a positive manner so that our state can expand in East Mississippi through economic development and growth.”
