USM inducts alumni in Hall of Fame

HATTIESBURG — Seven of the University of Southern Mississippi’s most dedicated and distinguished alumni have been selected to join its Alumni Hall of Fame.

The 2009 inductees include:

Dorrance Aultman (class of 1954) — A respected attorney, Aultman continues to practice law as president of the firm of Aultman, Tyner  Ruffin, Ltd. Among other professional affiliations, he is a member of the South Mississippi Bar Association, for which he served as president in 1970; the Mississippi State Bar Association; the American Bar Association; and the American Board of Trial Advocates.

Dr. Jay Dean (classes of 1975 and 1977) — Dean has been the music director of the University of Southern Mississippi Symphony Orchestra since 1988. He is a member of the Alumni Association as well as the USM Foundation Honor Club’s Associates for Excellence and Founders’ Society.

Dickie Dunaway (class of 1969) — Richard “Dickie” Dunaway became a leader on campus and on the football field at Southern Miss. After graduation, Dunaway took a job as a factory representative for the Ford Motor Company, a position that eventually sparked the opening of his own glass business, Auto Glass Discount, in Gulfport in 1971.

Mary Dayne Kenamond Gregg (classes of 1971 and 1982) — Gregg was a high school mathematics teacher at Hattiesburg High School from 1972 until 1981. In the fall of 1981, she joined the Southern Miss faculty as a full-time instructor in the Department of Computer Science.

John Lazenby (classes of 1969 and 1970) — Over the past decade, Lazenby has consistently ranked as one of the top Realtors in Orange County, Fla. In addition to his work in the real estate industry, he is a leader in service to his community and alma mater.

Billy Walker (class of 1980) — Walker is self-employed and operates several successful businesses in Biloxi and Houston, Texas, which provide services to clients throughout the South, and he counts Southern Miss as one of his many valued customers. He is a member of numerous business and trade organizations and supports many local charities in south Mississippi.

Dr. Alvin Williams (class of 1974) — Williams was interim dean of the College of Business and professor of marketing at Southern Miss, where he worked from 1980 to 2008. Williams also served as chairman of the Department of Marketing from 1988 to 2005.
