HARRISON COUNTY — William Carey University’s Tradition Campus, dedicated in Aug. 2009, was honored by the Mississippi Associated Builders and Contractors with the 2009 Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) Award for Excellence in Construction. The Tradition Campus contractor, Hanco Corporation, was also honored for exemplary work and a high degree of quality common with ABC members.
Bob Blevins, director of facilities, said, “It is an honor to be recognized by the Mississippi ABC for our Tradition Campus. The buildings reflect a quality and beauty that will surely stand the test of time. The work by Hanco Construction and Landry and Lewis Architects is truly an achievement of which the people of South Mississippi can be proud. This award not only honors excellence in construction, but the employees themselves who by their hard work have become a part of the William Carey University legacy.”
The Tradition Campus won in the Institutional category for buildings that cost between $10 and $25 million.
The campus consists of four buildings totaling 58,559 square feet and located on 30 acres. The administration and academic buildings are three-story structures. Two smaller buildings are a physical plant building and a security gatehouse.
The new Tradition Campus, located on Mississippi 67, replaces the Beach Boulevard campus that was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina.
