Bidders aim high for facility
PASCAGOULA — Bids came in high for the Jackson County Services Complex, a one-story, elevated building downtown near the courthouse. County supervisors discussed Jan. 19 what to do next, according to The Associated Press.
The construction budget for the 64,000-square-foot building is about $10.9 million. But all nine bids came in several million dollars over that amount.
The Sun Herald reports the original building, design by Glenn Currie and JBHM architects in Biloxi, included expensive metal siding and glass that is so storm-resistant that it’s almost bulletproof.
Currie said one option would be cheaper siding, but the windows must be rated to resist 150 mph winds to follow FEMA standards.
Supervisors said they wanted a solution within two months.
