Greenlee retiring as U.S. attorney

OXFORD — U.S. Attorney Jim M. Greenlee, who led the most sweeping judicial bribery investigation in memory in Mississippi, will retire Jan. 31, according to The Associated Press. Greenlee made the announcement Jan. 20 in a news release.

Greenlee was sworn in as U.S. attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi Oct. 30, 2001. He had previously been an assistant U.S. attorney in the office since 1987.

After taking over, his most notable cases involved the successful prosecution of some of the most influential lawyers in Mississippi, including Richard “Dickie” Scruggs and former Hinds County Judge Bobby DeLaughter.

Both men are serving prison sentences related to the judicial corruption investigation.
