Jackson Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. will hold a press conference at 11 a.m. today to provide the latest information regarding the city’s water crisis.
Johnson’s spokesman Christopher Mims said Wednesday morning that yesterday would go a long way toward determining how long water service and water pressure would be an issue for Jacksonians.
It appears crews may have turned a corner. Johnson said at a press conference yesterday that, for everyone to feel “comfortable,” water pressure would have to reach 65 psi, or pressure per square inch. Twenty hour hours ago, the water pressure level hovered around 44 psi, with the hopes that it would reach 54 psi by this morning. Mims did not immediately return a message left on his cell phone to confirm that it had or hadn’t. Johnson is expected to address the matter at 11.
State agencies that have been closed since Monday around lunch time remain shuttered today. Gov. Haley Barbour’s State of the State speech to a joint session of the Mississippi Legislature has been moved from tonight to Monday at 6 p.m. Lawmakers continued the session this morning at 10.
