Sign ordinance still alive
GREENWOOD — Some Greenwood City Council members are suggesting that Mayor Carolyn McAdams move slowly on proposing a new sign ordinance.
McAdams told The Greenwood Commonwealth that the plan to form a sign ordinance review committee, an idea advanced on Feb. 16, is beginning to take shape.
The review committee will contain one representative from the council as well as business and community leaders and sign company representatives. Particular emphasis will be placed on business owners along U.S. 82.
The draft ordinance, presented to the council Feb. 16, would restrict freestanding signs to a height of eight feet and amortize existing signs for up to 10 years, depending on their cost. It also would place limits on political yard signs and LED signs.
