State Farm gives to Jackson State
JACKSON — Jackson State University (JSU) will receive a sizable gift from the state’s largest home and automobile insurer. State Farm plans to present a $50,000 grant to the university in an effort to bring more students into the Computer Science Department.
The Systems Department at the Bloomington, Ill.-based company chose to provide JSU with the grant as one of its 2009 priority schools. The grant will help establish a computational thinking course, computing innovation lab, and a State Farm scholarship program.
“As state and university budgets face cutbacks in tough economic times, State Farm believes it is more important than ever to support our youth and help prepare them for future careers,” said Rob Wilburn, State Farm systems manager.
