Supervisors cut off hospital negotiations

NATCHEZ — Adams County Supervisors have ended talks to sell Natchez Regional Medical Center to Health Management Associates (HMA).

The Natchez Democrat reports supervisors took the action Friday after a meeting with members of Natchez Regional’s board of trustees and administrators.

Supervisor Henry Watts says there is no reason to sell the hospital.

A financial report from the hospital indicated that, excluding the one-time expenses related to the 2009 bankruptcy, the hospital would have shown a profit in fiscal year 2009 of more than $2 million.

HMA of Naples, Fla., operates 54 hospitals in 15 states, including Natchez Community Hospital.
