Community college raising tuition

BOONEVILLE — It will cost more to attend Northeast Mississippi Community College (NMCC) beginning this fall.

The school’s board of trustees last week approved an 11 percent hike in tuition effective July 1. The increase will raise tuition from the current $945 per semester to $1,050 per semester for Mississippi residents.

NMCC president Johnny Allen tells the Daily Corinthian that he recommended the increase amid cuts in state funding combined with higher costs of operation.

Allen says the increase is modest compared to what other community colleges have done across the state.

The NMCC board also increased the cost of a standard 15-meal-per-week plan will go from $688 to $726 per semester. A 19-meal-per-week plan will go from $852 per semester to $890.

  1. I know community colleges have done across the state because Allen says, and that he recommended the increase amid cuts in state funding combined with higher costs of operation.
