Hospital expansion getting underway

STARKVILLE — Officials will break ground today in Starkville for the expansion of Oktibbeha County Hospital. They will also announce the hospital’s new name.

Local voters approved a $27.5-million bond issue in 2008 to finance construction of a new west tower.

The Starkville Daily News reports that the hospital will remain at 96 beds, but the expansion will allow for larger rooms. Every three existing rooms will be consolidated into two larger ones, and the 30 rooms lost in that process will be added in the new tower.

Plans also call for a modernization of the obstetrics unit, with six to seven new birthing suites.
