The federal government will inspect hiring records of 180 employers in Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas and Tennessee to check for compliance with immigration laws and regulations.
That’s according to the National Federation of Independent Business.
The business group says the inspections will be performed by Homeland Security’s division of immigration customs enforcement.
Technical violations carry fines of up to $1,100 each. Knowingly hiring an undocumented worker — and filling out forms to hide the employment — carry fines of up to $3,200 for each violation.
