Budget woes could lengthen presidential search

LORMAN — A spokeswoman for the Mississippi Institutes of Higher Learning Board of Trustees says state budget cuts to education may delay the process of finding a new president for Alcorn State University.

Leah Smith tells The Natchez Democrat that the board has yet to discuss a schedule for finding a new president. She notes that it took six months last year to replace the University of Mississippi.

Interim president Norris Edney says he’s enjoying the work and will stay as long as needed.

Former president George Ross left in February to become president of Central Michigan University.
