CCVB offers funds for bridge work

COLUMBUS — The Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau (CCVB) has offered to pay one-third of the $400,000 match needed to finance the renovation of the old U.S. 82 bridge across the Tombigbee River into a pedestrian walkway.

The Mississippi Department of Transportation is providing $2 million for the work.

The city and Lowndes County has asked the CCVB to provide the total $400,000.

The Commercial Dispatch reports that the tourism board offered to pay $133,333 with the city and county splitting the remainder.
