Three charged with counterfeiting

NATCHEZ — Three Natchez residents have been charged with forgery in a counterfeiting scheme that police say targeted businesses in Mississippi and Louisiana.

Police Chief Mike Mullins says Christopher L. Young, Damon Hargrave and Geovannia R. Logan are each charged with one count of forgery. They were being held in city jail pending an initial court appearance.

Mullins tells the Natchez Democrat that officers recovered counterfeit $100 bills during the investigation.

Mullins says the three are accused of spending the counterfeit bills on small, inexpensive items at businesses in Natchez and Vidalia, La., and received real change. The purchases were made over the past week.

Police say the counterfeit bills are actually bleached $1 bills, which pass the counterfeit detection pen test.
