City mulling Sunday alcohol sales
OXFORD — Oxford aldermen will consider a proposal from local businesses to allow Sunday liquor sales for Father’s Day, Fourth of July and home football game weekends.
Jerry Jordan, president of the Oxford Restaurant Association, tells the Oxford Eagle that something needs to be done to avoid the difficulties with festivals and holidays that fall on Sundays.
Jordan says the city also needs to make itself attractive to tourists and spectators for entire weekends.
Mayor Pat Patterson says the issue will be discussed by aldermen on Tuesday.
Aldermen must approve alcohol sales and then petition the Mississippi State Tax Commission for the change.
Patterson has said that a clear division between restaurants and bars would be necessary to move forward.
