Idled workers offered free training

ACROSS MISSISSIPPI — Mississippi community and junior colleges have joined with WIN Job Centers and Small Business Development Centers to offer free business start-up training and counseling to 1,000 out-of-work Mississippians.

“This is a one-time opportunity for out-of-work Mississippians who want to become self-employed by starting their own businesses,” said Dr. Willis Lott, chairman of the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges. “Self-employment is not for everyone, but everyone deserves a chance.”

Interested individuals can visit the nearest WIN Job Center to sign up. Small Business Development Centers will conduct orientation workshops for entry into the program and follow-up counseling. Community and junior colleges will provide training classes.

Resources for this program come from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act through a grant from the Mississippi Department of Employment Security to The Montgomery Institute.
