Report: State has lowest credit card debt

ACROSS MISSISSIPPI — Despite the recession, Mississippians have managed to keep their credit card debt in check — at least compared to the rest of the nation.

The state had the least amount of credit card debt in April, according to the U.S. Credit Score Climate Report released by Credit Karma, a San Francisco-based consumer credit company.

On average, Mississippi consumers with a credit card had $6,272 in credit card debt in April. The average U.S. consumer’s credit card debt was $7,701.

The report was based on a comparison of more than 114,400 U.S. credit scores.
