WCU-COM closes in on admission goal

HATTIESBURG — William Carey University has offered admission to 100 students into its new College of Osteopathic Medicine (WCU-COM) as of May. Seventy-three seat deposits have been received with an additional 27 holding letters of acceptance for which payment is expected shortly.

Interviews will continue until the inaugural class of 100 students has been filled.

Of the 100 students offered admission, 41 come from Mississippi. The remaining students are from states throughout the south including Alabama, Arkansas and Louisiana. Seven of the students holding letters of acceptance are graduates of WCU’s new masters of biomedical sciences program.

“The candidates so far have been excellent,” said Dr. Michael Murphy, vice president and dean of the WCU-COM. “Dr. Jim Weir, associate dean of student services, and Emily Bennett, administrative assistant for admissions, have done an outstanding job of prioritizing more than 1,000 applications and inviting the most qualified of the candidates for interviews.”
