Bryant wants McClelland to remain on school board
JACKSON — Mississippi Lt. Gov. Phil Bryant has nominated veteran school administrator Charles McClelland of Jackson to continue serving on the state Board of Education.
McClelland is nominated for a full nine-year term. He has been on the board since 2005, filling the unexpired term of Frank Melton.
McClelland has served as a coach, principal and assistant school superintendent and is a small business owner. He’s the vice chairman of the nine-member state Board of Education.
Bryant says McClelland is a progressive thinker.
The nomination is effective July 1, and McClelland will face Senate confirmation in 2011. It’s not unusual for board members to serve before they’re confirmed.
