CIT.ms, CompTIA to offer free training

JACKSON — The Communications and information Technology Organization of Mississippi (CIT.ms) is partnering with the CompTIA Educational Foundation to provide free information technology training and certifications for people historically under-represented in the IT industry. Returning veterans, at-risk youth, dislocated workers and individuals with disabilities are a few of the groups that can benefit from this program, called Creating Futures.

In addition to the 24×7 online training, participants have access to mentoring and other resources. The initial training and certification, which can be completed in three to four months, provides the skills necessary to become a basic computer technician. Participants can choose to continue their free training with courses leading to certification in networking, server operations, security and convergence.

It is recommended, but not required, that applicants have basic computer knowledge.

“CompTIA provides industry-leading IT training and certification so we are very excited to be able to help them offer this service to Mississippians,” said Scott Hamilton, CIT.ms executive director. “This is an outstanding opportunity for people who may lack resources, but are interested in meaningful, well-paying technology careers.”
