City runs up stormwater tab MDEQ

JACKSON — Jackson’s mayor says the city has run up about $48,000 in penalties for violating the Clean Water Act, and it could cost $200,000 to $300,000 to fix the problems.

Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. told the City Council yesterday the city must correct 27 stormwater management problems to comply with the law, The Clarion-Ledger reports. The fines are owed to the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality.

Public Works director Dan Gaillet says it’s a year past the deadline for fixing the problems, which include lack of inspections.
