Ole Miss to build another research facility

OXFORD — Three federal agencies have provided $31.7 million for construction of a second building at the Thad Cochran Research Center at the University of Mississippi.

The Cochran Research Center is the primary research facility for the university’s National Center for Natural Products Research.

NCNPR Director Larry Walker told the Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal that the building would include a facility for Food and Drug Administration clinical trials, an expanded repository for botanical specimens and a variety of labs.

Funding came from grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration and the FDA totaling $17.8 million, and a competitive National Institutes of Health grant of $13.9 million.

Walker says construction could be completed by the summer of 2013.
