PSC awarded grant from NARUC

JACKSON — Public Service Commission (PSC) chairman Brandon Presley (D-Nettleton) announced that the PSC has been awarded a $99,000 grant to assist in developing energy efficiency standards for public utilities.

The grant was awarded by the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners (NARUC). Out of 14 states competing for the grant, Mississippi PSC’s proposal won first place and was awarded the highest amount of funding nationwide.

“This grant will help us develop real energy efficiency goals for Mississippi utility companies that will pay huge dividends for residential, commercial and industrial customers across Mississippi,” Presley said. “We will use the grant money to bring together consumer groups, the utilities and other energy experts to work as a coalition to reduce energy consumption.

“Anytime we can save on energy, it helps the overall economy in Mississippi.”
