Dr. Jim Brown of Starkville has been selected to participate in the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s 2011 Leadership Development Program. Brown is one of only 19 eye doctors chosen for the program, which is designed to recognize and support ophthalmologists with the potential to become leaders in their profession.
Brown was nominated by the Mississippi Eye, Ear, Nose and Throat Association. Every year, state, subspecialty and specialized interest ophthalmology societies may each nominate one member to be part of the program. Once nominations are submitted, program participants are selected through a competitive selection process.
As a member of the Leadership Development Program Class of 2011, Brown will attend four education sessions addressing various leadership, advocacy and association governance topics. The first will coincide with the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s (AAO’s) Joint Meeting in October in Chicago. Others will take place at AAO headquarters in San Francisco, at the Academy’s Mid-Year Forum in Washington, D.C., and at its annual meeting in Orlando.
Brown’s practice is the Eye & Laser Center of Starkville. He is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is a member of the AAO as well as the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
