Businesses receive hefty gas bills due to billing snafus

VICKSBURG — Billing errors have resulted in five commercial customers being notify that they owe a total of $867,000 to Vicksburg’s natural gas utility.

Officials told the Vicksburg Post that Rainbow Casino owes the most — $751,107. The Vicksburg Warren School District is next at $88,109.

One of the five has paid its bill.

The errors date back up to five years.

The undercharges affected customers with multiplier meters.

To be read accurately, the totals must be multiplied by 10. When that wasn’t done, officials said customers were charged only 10 percent of the amount actually due.

About 30 of the city’s 792 commercial customers have multiplier meters. Officials said only the five errors were found.
