Committee searching for new judge to replace Evans

JACKSON — Gov. Haley Barbour’s Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee is conducting a search to replace Circuit Court Judge Robert G. Evans of the 13th District.

Evans died July 13.

Evans, who lived in Raleigh, served as circuit judge since 1991. The 13th Circuit Court District includes Covington, Jasper, Simpson and Smith counties.

Evans was on leave from the position while undergoing medical treatment. The Mississippi Supreme Court July 1 appointed retired Circuit Judge Frank G. Vollor of Vicksburg to serve during Evans’ absence. Vollor will continue to serve temporarily until Barbour makes his appointment.

Anyone interested in applying should send 12 copies of their resume and a writing sample to Ed Brunini Jr., chairman of the Judicial Appointments Advisory Committee, at P.O. Box 119, Jackson, MS 39205. The deadline for submitting applications is Aug. 4. Anyone interested in recommending prospective candidates should send their letters of recommendation to Brunini at the same address.
