DuPont, Thomasson win Governor’s Cup

PASS CHRISTIAN and PHILADELPHIA — DuPont Titanium Technologies’ DeLisle plant in Pass Christian and Thomasson Company of Philadelphia have been recognized as the statewide winners of the 2009 Governor’s Cup Awards during the Mississippi Economic Development Council (MEDC).

DuPont Titanium Technologies was chosen as the winner of the Big Business (51 or more employees) category, and Thomasson Company was chosen as the winner of the Small Business (50 or fewer employees) category.

The awards, which are sponsored by the Mississippi Development Authority (MDA) and MEDC, are one of the highest honors presented by the governor. They are designed to recognize private-sector businesses that have made a significant impact within their communities. The nominees are judged in three areas — community involvement, economic impact and human resources.

This year, three small businesses and three large businesses were honored as district winners. From these six district winners, DuPont and Thomasson were selected as the statewide winners and presented with Governor’s Cup trophies. Additionally, the Harrison County Development Commission in Gulfport and the Community Development Partnership in Philadelphia, the respective companies’ nominating entities, received Governor’s Cup trophies and a $1,000 cash award.
